✂️ Surgical Excision

Surgical excision is a method in which the tattooed skin is carefully removed with attention to achieving a clean aesthetic result, taking into account the size and area of the tattoo, and then sutured closed. Smaller tattoos can often be removed in a single session.

Sutures are typically removed approximately 1–2 weeks after the procedure, marking the completion of treatment. The area will show a sutured line, but this tends to blend in gradually and become less noticeable over time. For larger tattoos, removal can be carried out in stages, which helps minimize scarring even when treating a wider area.

💡 Laser Treatment

IC Clinic Shinjuku offers two types of laser treatment: PicoLaser and Spectra. The laser breaks down the tattoo pigment, which then gradually fades and disappears as the fragmented particles are eliminated.

With laser treatment, results do not appear immediately after the procedure. The tattoo gradually fades over approximately one month, and a second session is typically performed around two months after the first.

🩹 Skin Grafting

⚠️ Skin grafting is not currently available at our clinic.

Skin grafting involves removing the tattooed skin and then transplanting skin harvested from an inconspicuous area such as the thigh or buttocks, which is then sutured in place.

While this method can achieve complete removal in a single procedure more reliably than surgical excision alone, it does result in scarring at the donor site as well. For larger tattoos, a greater amount of healthy donor skin is required, which proportionally increases the downtime. Attention should also be paid to potential issues such as itching and keloid formation.

Dermabrasion (ablation) is a method that uses a specialized device to abrade away the skin containing the tattoo pigment. Because the entire tattooed layer of skin is removed, this technique can address large and colorful tattoos, and may also be used in cases where surgical excision or laser treatment is not feasible.
